Gamdias Zeus E1 Review

Gamdias has always fascinated consumers with their low budget entry level gaming mice.most of their mice feature excellent build quality, decent buttons and fairly usable sensors. This time we are going to review Gamdias Zeus E1 optical gaming mouse. This is Mashhud Hasan and welcome to Frenzytitans360. First of all, a big thanks to Startech bd for providing us this review sample. Now without further thinking, let's jump into the review.

Body and Shape : The shape of this mouse seemed a little weird for me. Comparing to the claw rest, it's palm rest is quite small and difficult to put the palm on it comfortably. But I don't think this is an issue since the mouse's shape is mostly preferable for claw and fingertip grippers. Cougar 700M, Corsair Scimitar, G-Skill MX780-these well known mice have short palm rest while they have elevated claw rest. So does the Zeus E1. Having a comparably higher claw rest has made it suitable for claw grippers but fingertip grippers will also get comfortable with it. The chassis of this mouse is made of plastic which feels like hollow but I think it's agile enough. It has a rubberized finish at it's pinkie and thump rest. This will let the mouse lift-off without getting slipped off from the hand. Cable of this mouse is rubberized and won't create much friction with the surface. the gliding pads underneath of the mouse are very slippery and can glide smoothly. There are two lighting streams located below and above the thumb rest for reflecting RGB effects. There's a logo on the palm rest of the mouse which also reflects with yellow lights after plugging the mouse in. After shaking the mouse hard, I didn't find anything rattling other than the scroll wheel. Overall the build quality is  sturdy.

Buttons : There are a total of six buttons including left & right button, a DPI button, two side buttons and a scroll wheel. The scroll wheel is rubberized and can be scrolled pretty smoothly. Both of the side buttons are placed on the left side of the mouse which I think is a good move by Gamdias. Most of the mice from Gamdias such as Demeter E1, Ourea FPS have one side button on each of the side which I didn't like much cause I felt pretty hard clicking those side buttons on the right with my pinkie finger. But fortunately Zeus E1's both of the side buttons are placed beside the thumb rest. There's a DPI button located on the area where it is hard for the index finger to reach and click comparing to middle finger. The DPI button is very clickable and with this button, you can adjust the DPI into four different  modes (1000/1600/2400/3200 DPI). Left and right buttons are very satisfying but they are kinda tenacious and can't be pressed without good amount of force. I think the button of the mouse should be placed on the mouse as a separated part from the chassis which I didn't find in Zeus E1. Maybe that's one of the reasons why it's hard to press these buttons. But still these left and right buttons are very responsive.I've tested it's latency test and found out that they have an average latency of 0.87ms only. Even though sometimes the latency reaches 3ms to 5ms but most of the time it's around 0.2ms to 1ms. I'm giving down the result of Zeus E1's latency test. Overall I'm very impressed with it's responsiveness.

Sensor : Now here comes the most important topic related to this review. A sensor of a mouse works as a tiny low resolution camera that continuously snaps the illuminated surface's image according to sensor's FPS and then sends those image data to Micro Controller Unit to calculate and determine the true physical movement through Digital Image correlation technology. Then it gives commands to the cursor of the mouse to move according to the vector of mouse's physical movement and the DPI. So accuracy of a sensor is important to get the desired output of sensor's tracking. I've calculated Zeus E1's accuracy in the accuracy test and found out some important information that might be helpful. In 1000 DPI at 6/11 Windows Sensitivity, the accuracy of the mouse is around 83.5% while in same DPI but at 5/11 Sensitivity, the accuracy turns down to 65.23%. Retaining the same Sensitivity but at 2400 DPI, the accuracy reaches 68.9%. Again returning the Sensitivity to 6/11 and at 2400 DPI, the accuracy gets up at around 86.89%. So as we can see, the Windows Sensitivity is playing a key role here. So if you can settle the affinity of DPI and Windows Sensitivity into correct way, then you'll be able to get fairly accurate output from this mouse. I've played some Role Playing and FPS games with this mouse and saw some issues at higher DPI. The cursor spins out and loses the tracking line at some horizontal flicks. It's pretty obvious at higher DPI. But at 1000 and 1600 DPI,this mouse tracks very smoothly without any stuttering or pixel skipping. And I haven't found any noticeable acceleration but sometimes decelerates at jerky movements because of lower tracking speed. But that's not going to harm much. So overall the sensor is acceptable but expected from it to be a little bit more accurate at higher DPI because there are many gamers out there that loves to use their mice at whopping DPI level.

Others : The Polling rate plays a big role at mouse's working principles. This rate indicates the amount of signals that mouse sends in to the computer for moving the cursor. Higher polling rate will cause better responsiveness of the cursors movement. Nowadays gaming mice developers take this very seriously even after they make wireless mice. Razer Ouroboros is a wireless mouse that has a polling rate of whopping 1000 Hz. On the other hand, Asus Spatha has a polling rate of 2000 Hz when it works at wired mode. I've tested Zeus E1's polling rate. It's polling rate is usually around 124-125 Hz at constant movement and sometimes it reaches up to 128 Hz. It's not so much but quite acceptable.

So let's summarize some of the important facts of the discussions above. The mouse is quite heavy (125 G) and there should be a weight tuning system. It's shape is very comfortable for those claw grippers that have long fingers. Shape is pretty ergonomic, build quality is very good. Sensor should've been better but it's still usable and the polling rate is acceptable. Overall everything is good for an entry level gaming mouse. Thanks a lot for reading and stay tuned.
